Do-It-Yourself Styling Project For Contemporary Bathroom Furniture
Bathroom vanities and cabinets are perhaps the fastest, easiest and most satisfying bathroom remodeling projects that homeowners could indulge in. Always put in mind that the materials utilized for your vanities and cabinets, especially those that are made from wood, are subject to damages due to their consistent exposure to water and chemicals coming from the bath products that you and your family often use. One good means to prevent damages from occurring on your vanities and cabinets is to immediately repair them in case they are having hardware problems. However, if no damages are needed to be attended to and you only want to have modern bathroom cabinets and vanities without necessarily purchasing, you can simply refurbish your old bathroom furniture to update its style.
To achieve modern bathroom furniture you would need household cleaner, wash cloth, water, fine grit sandpaper, paint scrape, screwdriver, paintbrush or sponge, water based primer and paint, and new handles. As a first step, try to think of a concept that would serve as the design of your vanities and cabinets; be sure that your concept would complement the overall interior of your bathroom. The design that you will conceptualize will affect the color palette that you would use for this project.
Collect all the things inside and outside of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets, and set them aside for the remainder of the project. After doing this, remove all the doors and drawers of your furniture using your screwdriver, along with the handles of the drawers if you would like to change the handles; doing this would make it easier to clean and paint the hardware pieces. Then, wash these parts of your furnishings with household cleaner diluted in water and wash cloth. Make sure to clean the entire surface as well as the inside of your vanities and cabinets.
Once the pieces of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets have all dried up, remove their previous coat by sanding them with fine grit sandpaper. If the fine grit sandpaper isn't effective enough to remove the previous paint of your furniture you could also use paint scraper. The rough surface will enable the paint to hold properly on the hardware, and would prevent paint bubbles from forming. Sanding could also remove bumps on the surface of your fixture.
After sanding the drawers and doors of your contemporary bathroom vanities, wipe away all the excess dust residue using a damp sponge, then set them aside until they dry. You could proceed with the painting process if the hardware pieces are already dry; the first thing you should do is to paint each piece with a thin layer of water-based primer. Once the primer dries up, apply the actual color you have chosen for your furnishings using a paintbrush, or for a more vintage look you could also combine terracotta latex paint and glaze of any color.
Before installing the new handles of the drawers and doors of your bathroom furnishings, make sure that the paint have dried up to avoid smudges. After doing this, reassemble the pieces on their respective places, and give them a quick wipe to remove dust particles. Now, you can enjoy your modern bathroom furniture pieces. With the aid of these quick and easy refurbishing guide, it won't be necessary to purchase new bathroom furnishings to update the look of your bath space.
Contemporary bathroom vanities and modern bathroom cabinets are pretty expensive nowadays. If you want to have modern bathroom furniture without necessarily buying new pieces, all you have to do is to refurbish or refinish your old bathroom furnishings. This project may range from repainting your old vanities or cabinets, changing their handles or both. You could do this project during your free time, and the results would definitely be impressive.
